DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore kicker Nick Reed (Harrison, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire football team was named the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week and the Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
Reed made four field goals, including a game-winning 40-yard kick as time expired, to lift UNH to a 19-16 win in the team's home opener against Holy Cross at Wildcat Stadium on Sept. 6. Reed had tied the game, 16-16, at 9:13 of the fourth quarter when his career-long 50-yard field goal capped a 6-play, 41-yard drive.
New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 13 (2 p.m.) at Ball State University and the Wildcats' next home game is Sept. 27 (1 p.m.) for their conference opener vs. UAlbany. Buy tickets for the Throwback Game and Military Recognition online at unhwildcats.com/tickets or call (603) 862-4000.
Reed's first point of the game – a PAT kick on UNH's second possession of the game – gave the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.
In the second quarter, he foreshadowed what was to come when he made a 33-yard field goal on the last play of the half to send the Wildcats into the locker room with a 10-9 lead. Reed's 30-yard field goal extended UNH's lead to 13-9 at 2:05 of the third quarter.
In addition to the long of 50 yards, Reed broke single-game highs of four field goals and 13 points.
The previous time UNH won a game with a walk off field goal in regulation was Sept. 21, 2019, when Jason Hughes made a 29-yarder as time expired to lift the Wildcats to a 27-24 win against the University of Rhode Island.
The last time a Wildcat made four field goals in a game was Nov. 9, 2024 at Monmouth (Nick Mazzie).
