Robinson's Late Heroics Lifts UNH Past BU, 88-82, in OT

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guard KiJan Robinson (Apopka, Fla.) made the game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation and finished with a game-high 21 points to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Saturday night's 88-82 overtime win against Boston University at Lundholm Gym.
After BU made a pair of free throws to take a 74-71 lead with 4.1 seconds left in the second half, Robinson quickly advanced up the right side, pulled up and hit a step-back, off-balance shot to tie the score.
BU scored first in the five-minute extra session, but Robinson made consecutive layups to give the Wildcats a 78-77 lead at 3:51 that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Junior forward Belal El Shakery (Alexandria, Egypt) recorded a double-double of 18 points and career-high 14 rebounds. Junior guard Jack Graham (Smithfield, R.I.) and redshirt freshman guard R.J. Kennedy (Fayetteville, Ga.) also scored in double digits for the 'Cats with 13 and 12, respectively.
Michael McNair led five BU double-digit scorers with 21 points. He was followed by Sam Hughes (15), Azmar Abdullah (12), Donte Tisinger, Jr. (11) and Malcolm Chimezie (10).
UNH, which trailed by 25 points with 10:30 remaining in regulation, improves to 3-1 at home and 3-7 overall. BU is 4-6.

FIRST HALF
- UNH raced out to a 9-0 lead when Robinson hit a 3-pointer at 16:29.
- Kennedy's driving layup gave the Wildcats a double-digit lead, 13-3, at 14:17.
- BU closed within one point, 15-14, at 11:56 before New Hampshire edged out to a 25-18 lead on a layup by El Shakery.
- The Terriers went on a 15-2 run to take a 33-27 lead at 4:05
- The teams exchanged scores the rest of the half to advance the score to 38-33 in favor of the visitors through 20 minutes.
SECOND HALF
- BU extended its advantage to double figures, 44-33, at 17:11.
- The margin was extended to 20 points, 58-38, at 13:27 and peaked at 25 points, 65-40, at 10:42.
- The Wildcats trailed by 19 points, 70-51, before finishing with a flurry in the final 4:30 that was bolstered by a full-court press.
- Robinson's 3-pointer was answered by a free throw, but then a pair of Kennedy layups were sandwiched around El Shakery's dunk to lift UNH within 71-60 with 2:21 to play.
- Another BU foul shot ended that run, but Graham's pull-up jumper made the score 72-62 and ignited an 11-0 run.
- UNH trimmed the deficit to single digits, 72-65, on Robinson's 3-pointer with 49 seconds remaining.
- Graham connected on a 3-pointer from the left wing with 28 seconds left and made a free throw with five seconds on the clock to bring the 'Cats within 72-71
- McNair made two foul shots to extend the lead to 74-71 but Robinson's heroics extended the game.
OVERTIME
- After Robinson's layups gave UNH a 78-77 lead, Graham added another layup and Robinson hit a free throw to extend the margin to 81-77 midway through the extra session.
- Chimezie made two foul shots to trim the difference to 81-79 at 1:28.
- El Shakery answered with a layup at the other end of the court and Graham added another free throw to give the 'Cats an 84-79 lead with 31 seconds to play.
- Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) pulled down a defensive rebound, was fouled and hit two shots from the foul line to push the advantage to 86-79 with 23 seconds on the clock.
- BU missed a 3-pointer, Graham secured the defensive rebound and made two free throws to give UNH an 88-79 lead with four seconds to go
- The Terriers hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- The 21 points and four 3-pointers both marked season highs for Robinson.
- El Shakery recorded his third double-double of the season. He also blocked two shots.
INSIDE THE STATS
- Robinson and Graham both scored five points in OT as UNH outscored BU 14-8 in the extra session.
- UNH made all four field goal attempts and 6 of 8 free throws in overtime; the Terriers shot 28.6% (2-7) form the floor and 50% (2-4) from the foul line.
