Saint Louis Pulls Away from UNH in Closing Minutes for 93-79 Win

SAINT LOUIS – Junior guards Jack Graham (Smithfield, R.I.) and KiJan Robinson (Apopka, Fla.) scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was edged 93-79 by Saint Louis University at Chaifetz Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Comeh Emuobor (Raleigh, N.C.), another junior guard, finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. Junior forward Belal El Shakery (Alexandria, Egypt) recorded eight points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Robbie Avila and Brady Dunlap led four SLU players in double figures with 18 points apiece. Dion Brown had 15 points and game-high nine rebounds while Trey Green netted 12 points.
UNH moves to 4-8 overall and the Billikens, who went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 76 seconds to fend off the Wildcats, are 11-1.

FIRST HALF
- There were 17 lead changes and four ties in first half as neither team led by more than seven points in the opening 20 minutes.
- UNH scored its first 18 points on 3-point field goals, including consecutive 3-balls from Tyler Bike (Merrimack N.H.) and a second by Robinson at 8:52 that lifted the Wildcats within 19-18.
- Graham's layup put UNH back in front, 20-19, at 8:12 and the teams exchanged scored the rest of the half as neither team led by more than two points in the last eight minutes.
- Avila's 3-pointer beat the buzzer to give the Billikens a 40-38 lead.
- Robinson scored 11 first-half points on 4 of 6 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-4 on 3-pointers.
SECOND HALF
- UNH transformed a four-point deficit into a 44-43 lead on a 3-pointer by Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) at 18:24 and two free throws by John Squire (Sausalito, Calif.) at 17:52.
- UNH took a 51-49 lead on Poser's layup at 14:48, but SLU went on a 10-0 run to take a 59-51 lead at 12:23.
- The Wildcats inched within three points, 62-59, on a layup by R.J. Kennedy (Fayetteville, Ga.) at 9:35.
- The Billikens built the biggest lead of the game – 12 points – of 73-61 with 7:35 on the clock.
- UNH scored seven consecutive points on two free throws by Emuobor, then a 3-pointer and layup by Graham within 30 seconds to trim the deficit to 73-68 at 5:10.
- Graham hit another 3-pointer at 2:25 to once again make it a five-point margin, 81-76, but the 'Cats were outscored 12-3 the rest of the way.
- It was still a two-possession game, 85-79, when El Shakery made a layup at 1:38.
- UNH missed all four field goals, whereas SLU did not miss again on six consecutive foul shots and a layup to pull away.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Graham matched his career high of four 3-pointers established earlier this season at Harvard University.
- El Shakery tied his personal best of three blocks set earlier this month at Dartmouth College.
- Bike had a team-high three assists and matched his high of four rebounds set against Brown University.
- Squire was credited with two blocks, which equaled his high established this year vs. Brown.
INSIDE THE STATS
- In the first half, UNH shot 50% from the floor (15-for-30) and 43.8% from 3-point range (7 of 16).
- The Wildcats finished with a .459 field goal percentage (28-61) with a .400 mark (12-30) on 3-pointers.
- UNH's 12 3-pointers ranked second on the season to the 16 3's against Curry College' the Billikens also made 12 3-pointers.
- New Hampshire had a 22-9 scoring edge in fastbreak points.
- SLU had the slight 34-30 edge in points in the paint.
