The 97th Spengler Cup will take place on Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland
The U.S. Collegiate Selects is made up of 25 student-athletes from across NCAA men's ice hockey, with each conference being represented. U.S. Collegiate Selects will face Team Canada to open Spengler Cup play on December 26. Each team will play a minimum of three contests and maximum of five during the six-day event. The tournament is being broadcast to over 20 countries, either through a partner or via livestream. Official word on how the games can be seen in the United States will be announced at a later date.
The competition runs from December 26-31, with the six participating teams. Along with the Selects, host HC Davos, Team Canada, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, Sparta Praha and IFK Helsinki will be taking part in the 2025 edition.
This will be only the second time an American-based select team has taken part in the Spengler Cup, following a U.S. squad that won the tournament in 1988, but this will be the first to be made up of collegiate athletes.
Lavins is no stranger to major international competitions as he was a member of Team Latvia in the 2024 and 2025 World Championships. He appeared in a combined nine games over the two tournaments with two assists for two points. Overall, he has played in 27 games with the National Team and has posted two goals and six assists for eight points.
As a Wildcat, Lavins has made 72 appearances with 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points. Last season, he recorded a career-high eight goals and nine assists for a career-best 17 points. Lavins has won the team's Warren R. Brown Best Defensive Forward Award for two straight seasons.
Lavins will join UNH head coach Mike Souza at the Spengler Cup as Souza is an assistant coach for U.S. Collegiate Selects.
The complete 25-player roster consists of 15 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goaltenders. Nine are from the Big Ten, six are from Hockey East, six are from the NCHC, two are from the CCHA and one representative each are coming from ECAC Hockey and the AHA.
