UNH Falls to UMass 103-74 in Season Opener

Wildcats Home Opener is Wednesday, Nov. 6 vs. UMass Boston (7 p.m.)
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to UMass, 103-74 in the season opener on Monday night from the Mullins Center.
Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) scored 20 points for the Wildcats and collected six rebounds. Senior forward Trey Woodyard (London, Ohio) added nine points, five assists, and three rebounds for the 'Cats. Sophomore forward Dylan Saunders (Roanoke, Va.) and junior guard Anthony McComb III (Dayton, Ohio) also tallied nine points on the night.
The Wildcats fall to 0-1 (0-0 AE) and UMass improves to 1-0 (0-0 A10).

FIRST HALF- Pissis drove through the right lane and converted a layup for the Wildcats' first points of the season (2-0).
- The Minutemen went on a 15-0 run to force a UNH timeout. Out of the timeout, the Cats went on an 11-5 run, beginning with a McComb III three-pointer. Woodyard made a layup off of a fast break then Saunders and sophomore forward Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 20-13.
- UMass ran away with the first half score but a Pissis three-pointer and a freshman forward Jon O'Neill (Kaukauna, Wis.) freethrow lessened the blow (49-31).
SECOND HALF- The Wildcats began the second half strong with a 6-2 run consisting of a woodyard layup, two made freethrows by Pissis, and a layup from McComb III (51-37).
- Another McComb III layup was followed up by a shot-clock buzzer beater three pointer from junior guard Rex Sunderland (Kaysville, Utah) (57-39).
- Pissis drained two more three pointers and Saunders dropped his third triple but the Minutemen maintained their lead to win the game 103-74.
Up Next- The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. for their home opener against UMass Boston.
