Wildcats Defeat UMass Boston 99-69 in Home Opener

McComb III Tallies 24 Points, Pissis Two Assists Shy of Triple-Double
DURHAM, NH. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team defeated UMass Boston, 99-69 in the home opener on Wednesday night from Lundholm Gym.
Junior guard Anthony McComb III (Dayton, Ohio) led the scoring with 24 points for the Wildcats. Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) added 13 points, 10 rebounds, and eight rebounds for the 'Cats to pick up a double-double. Sophomore forward Dylan Saunders (Roanoke, Va) knocked down four three pointers for 12 points on the night.

- Graduate student Emmanuel Okpomo (Delta State, Nigeria) opened up the scoring for UNH with the first home basket of the season in the first minute of the half. Shortly after, UMass Boston scored five points with a jumper and a three pointer.
- Pissis quickly responded with two free throws to secure two points for the 'Cats.
- Saunders sank the first home three pointer to put the 'Cats up 7-5.
- UMass Boston scored a three pointer taking the score to 8-7, but 20 seconds later junior guard McComb III took back the lead with a three pointer putting the 'Cats up 10-8.
- With 13:23 left on the clock, UNH went on a 10 point run with two three pointers from junior guard Rex Sunderland (Kaysville, Utah), an alley-oop from Pissis, and a jumper from freshman guard Khalil Badru (New Britain, Conn.).
- The teams traded points, but the 'Cats momentum never stopped as the half ended with a score of 50-31. With three seconds left, Sunderland sank a three pointer to lock in the lead.
- For the second time, Okpomo scored the first point of the half for the 'Cats with a free throw. Shortly after, he made another free throw extending the lead 52-31.
- With 18 minutes on the clock, a jumper from Pissis and a layup from McComb III kept UNH to lead 56-33.
- UMass Boston went on a 12 point run, but McComb III shut it down with a jumper.
- Sunderland scored his third three pointer of the game securing three points for UNH to lead 65-47. A minute later, McComb III scored two points from a layup.
- At the 10 minute mark, sophomore forward Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) scored a three pointer for UNH, keeping the 'Cats in the lead 70-51.
- UNH went on a 10 point run with 7:23 left in the game as the 'Cats remain in the lead 87-60.
- The 'Cats finished out the game strong with a 99-69 final score.

- 24 points marks as McComb's collegiate career high
- Pissis was two assists shy of a triple-double.

- The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. at UConn.
