DURHAM, N.H. – Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario), a senior on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was awarded second place overall, as well as the People's Choice Award, in the 35th Annual Paul J. Holloway Prize Innovation to Market Competition for the Swellular plan.
Gustavo Rodriguez (Veracruz, Mexico) of the men's soccer team and Hannah Weatherby (Newtown, Conn.) of the swimming & diving team combined to produce the Takko Time plan and were honored as a runner-up for being one of six finalists.
This year's competition was pared to 20 semifinalists and then the six finalists, from which the top three award winners and runners-up were selected.
In the semifinal round Bud Albin Challenge, the teams were separated by tracks and both UNH teams won their respective tracks. Takko Time earned first place in the Hospitality and Service track while Swellular received the top honor in Sustainability.
Swellular – Wave Powered Communication System for First Responders – is a collaboration between Breton, Luke Conroy, Allison Childs and Maddie Strange. Swellular has developed a product that is designed to provide coastal resiliency and disaster relief to isolated islands and coastal communities with limited communication infrastructure.
The product focuses on integrating marine renewable energy (MRE) conversion to power a portable communication tower and is designed for rapid deployment offshore of these communities.

Takko Time is a company that is born with the initiative to offer the community of Durham the opportunity to know and consume authentic Mexican food in a food truck at affordable prices, as well as the possibility of getting to know Mexico through the different flavors of its gastronomy.
Founded in 1989, the Holloway Competition is one of the first and oldest business plan idea competitions, and is UNH's premier business plan competition for undergraduate and graduate students.
This multi-track competition takes students out of the classroom and into the real world. It challenges students to develop viable products or services and present plans to bring them to market.
Through the years, hundreds of UNH students have launched dozens of successful companies.
