DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Ava Mariani (Easton, PA) scored a goal but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 5-1 by UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.

Senior goalkeeper Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) recorded three saves and freshman Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) was credited with an assist.

UMass Lowell was led offensively by Jenna Berger (two goals) and Meike Vischer (three assists). Eleonor Boekhorst was credited with two saves.

UNH is now 3-6 overall and 0-2 in America East while UMass Lowell extended its winning streak to six games to improve to 7-2, 3-0.

FIRST QUARTER

The River Hawks took a 1-0 lead on the second shot of the game when Kate Miller scored with an assist from Madison Leeper at 2:46.
Berger scored the second goal for UMass Lowell at 6:01 when she tipped in Meike Vischer's shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner.
The visitors converted another corner into a Mirthe Gans' goal and 3-0 lead at 7:56.
UMass Lowell recorded a 6-1 shot advantage and ended the quarter with three goals.
Woods had two saves.

SECOND QUARTER

UNH had a 2-1 shot advantage but UMass Lowell scored on that shot to build a four-goal advantage.
The River Hawks scored their fourth goal – third on a corner – at 22:50 when Berger scored on a double deflection to improve the lead to 4-0.
The Wildcats earned their first corner of the game at 19:43. The direct shot by Tamera Cookman (Woking, England) was blocked, but twin sister Tamera controlled the rebound on the right side and struck a low shot wide of the far post.

THIRD QUARTER

The River Hawks scored the first goal of the quarter at 41:04 by Valerie Crory to take a 5-0 lead.
The Wildcats scored their first goal of the game soon after at 41:17. Tasmin Cookman dribble along the right end line and slipped a pass in front to Mariani, who drove a low, hard shot into the cage.
UNH ended with five shots in the quarter and UMass Lowell had two.

FOURTH QUARTER

Both teams recorded one shot in the scoreless final frame.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

UMass Lowell finished with the edge in shots (10-9), shots on goal (8-3) and corners (9-3).

UNH NOTEBOOK

Mariani recorded her first goal of the season. She recorded a team-high two shots.
Tasmin Cookman has a team-high four assists. She also leads UNH in both goals (six) and points (16).
