Cookman Earns Offensive Player and Rookie Awards; Woods Named Defensive Player
BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire field hockey team swept the three America East weekly awards on Tuesday. Freshman Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) received both the Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades while senior Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) was named Defensive Player of the Week.
The pair of Wildcats led UNH to a season-opening 3-1 victory at Quinnipiac University on Aug. 26 and 5-2 home win against Boston University on Aug. 28.

Cookman recorded four goals – two on penalty strokes – and an assist for a total of nine points in two games. She recorded a goal and an assist in her collegiate debut at Quinnipiac to become the first Wildcat rookie in more than a decade to record more than two points in a season opener. Cookman set up the first goal of the season and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal when she gave the 'Cats a 2-1 lead with 18 seconds left in the third quarter.
In the home opener vs. Boston U., Cookman scored the first two goals of the game 3:07 apart in the second quarter to quickly turn a scoreless game into a 2-0 lead. She struck again 2:13 into the fourth quarter to extend the advantage to 5-1.
Through two games, Cookman leads UNH in goals, points, shots (seven), shots on goal (five) and shooting percentage (.571).
Woods went 2-0 last week with a 1.50 GAA and .842 save percentage; she made 16 saves with three goals against in playing the full 120 minutes. She backboned the team to the 3-1 win at Quinnipiac with seven saves, five of which were in the second quarter to send the 'Cats into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Woods made seven of her nine saves vs. BU in the second half to keep New Hampshire in front after the Wildcats led 2-0 at the half. Her one save in the second quarter was critical; she turned away the Terriers on an untimed penalty corner immediately before halftime to preserve the two-goal advantage.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 2 against Providence College; game time at Memorial Field is 4 p.m.
