BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team opened up America East Outdoor Championship action on Saturday at the University of Vermont.
The Wildcats currently sit in a tie for third place with the host Catamounts with 22 total points.
The 'Cats duo of junior Danielle Heine (Waverly, Pa.) and senior Jordan Hoffman (North Chelmsford, Mass.) finished third and fourth respectively in the pole vault with a mark of 11'7.75".
"Both Dani and Jordan have had a great year in the pole vault and they have displayed their consistency both indoor and outdoor throughout the year, they make a great team and they push each other," said UNH head coach Robert Hoppler.
Junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) also placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 172'9".
Sophomore Mia Taranko (Saco, Maine) earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 18'3.75".
Senior Caroline Mahoney (Bedford, N.H.) earned a solid sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meter run at 37:49.73, followed closely by teammate Lauren Dean (Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.) who was seventh (37:51.94).
"That's the fourth time in four years that Caroline has scored in the 10,000 meter race at the conference championship, so that's an impressive accomplishment for sure," said Hoppler. "To see Lauren's progression from her freshman year in the 4x100 to the 10,000 meter race is remarkable."
Freshman Olivia Valianti (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Lauren Quann (Pictou, Nova Scotia) placed seventh and eighth in the javelin with throws of 123'7" and 123'5" to score some key points for the Wildcats on the afternoon.
Junior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.) finished first in the preliminaries of the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:45.40, while sophomores Emma York (Penacook, N.H.) placed fourth at 4:47.56 and Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.) was seventh with a mark of 4:53.62.
Sophomore Cailey Archer (Berthoud, Colo.) earned a seventh-place finish in the prelims of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.04.
The Wildcats return to competition on Sunday, May 8 on the final day of action at the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning at 9 a.m. on AmericaEast.tv.
