Wildcats Down Maine, 2-1 in America East Semifinal

DURHAM, NH - Freshman midfielder Abbi Maier (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored both goals for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team defeated Maine, 2-1 on Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium in the America East Semifinal.
The Wildcats' record improves to 9-5-2 (6-1-2, America East) and the Black Bears falls to 9-3-5 (4-1-4, America East).

· UNH returns to action when they head to Vestal, N.Y on Sunday, Nov. 6 to take on Binghamton in the America East Championship game at 2 p.m.
FIRST HALF:
· Junior forward Emily Bini (Guilderland, N.Y.) passed the ball to sophomore forward Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.). Guarente found Maier infront of the net, and she redirected the ball into the high right corner in the 21st minute.
· Maine tied the game at 1-1 in the 38th minute as Julie Lossius found the back of the net. Madison Michaud notched an assist on the goal.
SECOND HALF:
· A throw in from Bini went right to Guarente who kicked the ball high into the air. Maier took advantage of the high ball in front of the net and drilled a header right into the center in the 86th minute giving UNH in a 2-1 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· UNH took seven corner kicks compared to UMaine's two.
· The Wildcats undershot the Black Bears 9-11.
· Grad student goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) had two saves while Kira Kutzinski had four.
