Colbert wins gold in discus; Wildcats finish second in AE Outdoor Championship

The 'Cats also got a gold in the 4x800 relay led by Doody, Barretto, Yeomans and Martell
LOWELL, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team finished in second place at the America East Outdoor Championships at Cushing Field Complex on the campus of UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon.
UNH finished with 145 points, while UAlbany took with with 200 points and host UMass Lowell finished third with 120 points. It's the fourth time in the last five years the Wildcats have earned a second-place finish in the women's outdoor championship.
The Wildcats got two gold medal finishes on the final day of competition at the championship, including graduate student Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) in the discus, breaking her school record for the third time this season with a throw of 169'2". Colbert's PR coming into the year was 148'4."
The Wildcats 4x800 relay team comprised of freshman Lily Doody (Lee, N.H.), junior Nicole Yeomans (Foxborough, Mass.), senior Cayla Barretto (Woburn, Mass.) and freshman Elizabeth Martell (Essex Junction, Vt.) took first-place with a time of 8:58.19.
"As a coaching staff, from Coach Boulanger, to Casey, myself and Cullen Aubin, our throws coach, we are very happy with the way the meet went today, it equals the highest finish the women have ever had," said UNH co-head coach Robert Hoppler. "The highlight on the weekend was the team's depth and our versatility, we had athletes score in all aspects of track and field. It was a complete team effort."
"Alyssa was tremendous in the discus, she broke her school record again, she is having a spectacular year as a fifth-year senior. She worked really hard to have this opportunity again."
"In the 4x800 relay, it was nice to get a win, all four athletes ran well in their individual events and them coming together to win it was great to see."
The Wildcats return to return to action at the New England Championships at Central Connecticut State on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15.
HAMMER
Alyssa Colbert earned a silver medal with a throw of 166'8", while junior Sarah Williams (Dover, N.H.) placed sixth with a mark of 156'0".

Graduate student Bosibori Mosongo (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned a second-place finish in the heptathlon with 4630 points.

Sarah Williams threw 43'1.75", which was good for a fifth-place finish in the shot put for UNH.
Freshman Abby Chorches (East Falmouth, Mass.) rounded out the Wildcats in the event at 33'2.50" in 15th place in the event.

Junior Saige Tudisco (Haverhill, Mass.) earned a ninth-place finish with a jump of 5'1".

The Wildcats took fourth-place in the relay with a time of 49.79, comprised of sophomore Meline Almasian (Westford, Mass.), junior Savannah Vartabedian (Wilbraham, Mass.), junior Zakiya Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Tudisco.

UNH took three of the top six finishers in the event with Cayla Barretto (4:33.32), Nicole Yeomans (4:33.44) and Regan Doody (4:41.63) finishing fourth, fifth an sixth, respectively.

Graduate student Elisabeth Danis (Nottingham, N.H.) led the way for the 'Cats in the event with a fifth-place finish and a mark of 17:34.84, graduate student Michaella Conery (Concord, N.H.) was sixth (17:40.22). Sophomore Kira Nolan (Richmond, Vt.) placed eighth with a mark of 18:04.53, while junior Sydney Rice (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted an 11th place mark (18:18.21).
