IRVING, Texas – Brian Carter (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Evan Horn (Lebanon, Pa.), both senior captains on the University of New Hampshire football team, were named to the 2021 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions who maintained a cumulative 3.2 or higher GPA throughout their college careers. Each member must have completed their final year of playing eligibility in the 2020-21 academic year and must also be a starter or significant contributor.
An elite group of 910 players from 255 schools qualified for membership in the Society's 15th year. Only one other CAA school had more than one representative in 2021.
Carter, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound defensive end, was credited with six total tackles (three solo, three assisted), including a half-sack, and one pass breakup in one game this season. In 33 career games, Carter tallied 79 tackles (49-30-79) with 18.5 tackles for loss, including 10 sacks; he is UNH's active leader in both sacks and tackles for loss. Carter's other career stats included 23 starts, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and five pass breakups.
Carter has been named to the CAA Football Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in recognition of outstanding academics.
Horn, a 6-0, 220-pound safety, made four tackles (two solo, two assisted) and a pass breakup in one game. In 37 career games, Horn amassed 174 tackles (114-60-174) with 13 tackles for loss, including seven sacks; his other stats included 11 interceptions – including four pick-sixes, 17 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Horn capped his career with 23 consecutive starts, and he had 30 career starts.
Horn led the team in tackles as a junior in 2019, when he also recorded six takeaways (four interceptions, two fumble recoveries), five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and seven tackles for loss, including four sacks.
Horn has joined Carter on the CAA Football Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for his academic achievement. His other accolades included All-Conference Second Team and HERO Sports Sophomore All-America Team.
New Hampshire was scheduled to play a six-game CAA regular-season schedule in Spring 2021. The Wildcats were edged 24-20 in the March 5 season opener and that proved to the only game for the 'Cats, who then had an open week and postponed three consecutive games before opting out of the remainder of the season.
