Wiley, Picicci Score in 2-0 Win vs. Rhode Island

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore midfielder Whitney Wiley (Vienna, Va.) and senior forward Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y) both recorded a goal to lift the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory against the University of Rhode Island on Sunday at Wildcat Stadium.
This marks the second consecutive game in which both Wiley and and Picicci scored goals. Freshman forward Emily Bini (Guilderland, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on the goal by Picicci.
UNH junior goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y) was credited with the win. The reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week recorded two saves and allowed zero goals in 90 minutes for her second shuout of the season and seventh career.
URI starting goalie Faith Hutchins was credited with one save in 27:38. Teresa Morrissey played the final 62:22 and was charged with the loss on two goals against; she made five saves.
New Hampshire improved to 3-0-0 and URI dropped to 0-3-0.
UP NEXT

FIRST HALF
- UNH recorded three shots on goal in the first half with the Rams unable to get any shots on goal.
- The Wildcats almost scored on an aggressive push from freshman back Ella Dudley (St. Augustine, Fla.) in the third minute that was stopped by Hutchins.
- URI midfielder Tess O'Connell's header in the seventh minute went wide left of the net for the Rams' most dangerous chance of the first half.
SECOND HALF
- The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first at 51:46 when Wiley pinpointed a penalty kick to the bottom left corner of the net to beat Morrissey.
- Picicci scored on a breakaway goal off Bini's beautiful pass to extend UNH's lead to 2-0 at 81:00. Picicci had re-entered the game just 35 seconds earlier.
- The Rams were called for two penalties in the second half and that included one inside the penalty box leading to Wiley's goal.
- UNH generated a 6-4 shot advantage, including 5-2 on goal, in the second half.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UNH finished with a 11-7 shot advantage, including 6-2 on goal.
- The Wildcats garnered an 11-3 edge in corner kicks.
- Wiley recorded a game-high three shots on goal.
- Picicci ended with a game high of four shots.
- The Rams committed 18 fouls in the matchup, doubling the Wildcats' total.

- Bini recorded her first collegiate point with the assist on the goal by Picicci in the 81st minute.
