Freshman Alivia Kelly scores game winner in collegiate debut.
DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Alivia Kelly (Pembroke, Mass.) netted the lone goal of the game in her collegiate debut as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team defeated Northeastern, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
The Wildcats kick off the season 1-0-0, while the Huskies start 0-1-0.

The Huskies took the first shot on goal of the game in the 17th minute when junior goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) made a save on an attempt by Chelsea Domond.
The Wildcats scored their first goal of the season in the 20th minute (19:55) when freshman Anna Hewlett (Webster, N.Y.) sent a corner kick to the box as Kelly sprinted to the ball and headed it to the upper middle of the net for her first collegiate goal.
In the 27th and 28th minutes, senior captain Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Whitney Wiley (Vienna, Va.) each took a shot on goal but were saved by Angeline Friel.
The UNH defense held Northeastern to just one shot on goal in the second half as Sheppard made the save on a shot by Domond.

UNH took five shots on goal and Northeastern posted three.
The Huskies took six corner kicks, while the Wildcats took two.
Sheppard finished the game with three saves to earn the win, while Friel made four.

Kelly's goal was the first of her collegiate career. The last time a Wildcat freshman scored in the season opener was when Brooke Murphy found the back of the net in the 1-0 win versus Youngstown State on August, 22, 2014.
The assist was Hewlett's first collegiate point.
Sheppard now has six career shutouts.
UNH is 4-1-2 in season-openers under head coach Steve Welham.
