DURHAM, N.H. – Senior captain Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was named to the 2021 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Division I Senior Bowl on Wednesday.
Picicci is one of six forwards and 23 Division I players selected to the Senior Bowl.
Picicci, who was an America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team honoree this fall, started all 17 games in which she played and was UNH's leader in goals (six), game-winning goals (three) and points (13). She was efficient with those six goals on 28 shots for a .214 shooting percentage.
With those numbers, Picicci tied at No. 4 in the conference in goals, tied for No. 7 in goals per game (0.353), ninth in points and 10th in points per game (0.76).
Picicci matched her career high of two goals in back-to-back games at Stony Brook University and against UMBC. She also had an assist at SBU for a personal-best five points, and she netted the game-winning goal in both those games. She also scored the game winner in UNH's 1-0 victory against Binghamton University.
The NEWISA Senior Bowl brings together players from NCAA Division I, II and III colleges in New England for one final game following the conclusion of their last collegiate season. For the 2021 season, the NEWISA Senior Bowl Selections are honored with a news release announcing the teams and awards will be sent to selected players. However, NEWISA is unable to host a game this fall due to COVID restrictions and concerns.
NEWISA Senior Bowl eligibility is open to all players who will graduate from undergraduate studies during the 2021-2022 academic year and any graduate student playing a final season this current school year.
New Hampshire advanced to the America East championship game, where the Wildcats were upended 1-0 on a goal in the 80th minute. UNH shut out eight opponents in the 2021 season and finished with a 6-9-4 overall record.
