BOSTON – Freshman Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Guarente set up the game's only goal to help propel UNH to a pivotal 1-0 conference victory against Binghamton University on Oct. 23. With that win, the Wildcats climbed from a tie for sixth place to a tie for third place in the America East standings with one regular-season game remaining.
In the 33rd minute, Guarente controlled a centering pass downward and volleyed the ball toward the left post, where senior captain Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) headed a shot back across and inside the right post for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
This is the second conference Rookie of the Week award for Guarente. She was previously honored Aug. 23.
New Hampshire (6-7-2 overall, 4-3-1 America East) concludes the regular season Thursday, Oct. 28 (4 p.m.) at the University of Vermont.
