DURHAM, N.H. – C.J. Kelly led the Great Danes with 23 points as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to UAlbany, 83-64, Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gym. The Wildcats fall to 7-6 overall (6-4 America East), while the Great Danes improve to 4-6 overall (4-4 America East).

Junior guard Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) and redshirt freshman guard Blondeau Tchoukuiengo (Montreal, Quebec) led the Wildcats with 14 points each. Junior forward Meekness Payne (Phoenix, Ariz.) contributed with a career-best nine points. Antonio Rizzuto chipped in with 16 points for UAlbany.

UNH grabbed 32 rebounds and shot 43.3 percent from the field, while the Great Danes posted 34 rebounds and shot 51.9 percent.

The Wildcats will return to action when they play at Binghamton on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30-31.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

After UAlbany started the game on a 6-0 run, junior forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) recorded an old-fashioned three-point play on a layup and made the free throw to cut the deficit to 6-3 with 17:28 left in the half.
The Great Danes would then go onto increase their lead to 24 points two different times once at 42-18 with 2:23 left on the clock and 45-21 with 1:08 remaining.
Tchoukuiengo hit a half-court shot at the buzzer as UAlbany led 45-26 at the half.

Second Half

UAlbany outscored UNH by an 8-2 margin in the early going of the second half to extend its lead to 25 points at 53-28 with 16:54 left.
A 3-pointer by Chuck Champion gave the Great Danes their biggest lead of the contest at 26 points (77-51) with 7:21 left in the half.
The Wildcats would outscore the Great Danes by a 13-6 margin the remainder of the game for the 83-64 final score.
