
Men's Hockey Announces Freshman Class

Seven student-athletes to join the program.
DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire head men's hockey coach Mike Souza has announced the freshman class for the 2020-21 season. Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.), Jeremy Forman (Northbrook, Ill.), Cam Gendron (Hampstead, N.H.), Nikolai Jenson (Cold Spring, Minn.), Joe Nagle (Weymouth, Mass.), Luke Reid (Warman, Saskatchewan) and Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn.) will join the program.
"This year's freshman class brings us size, skill and grit, and our staff is looking forward to working with all seven student-athletes," said Souza.

- Played in 42 games with 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points for the Wenatchee Wild (BCHL) in the 2019-20 season as he was named the team's Forward of the Year
- Attended Cushing Academy in 2018-19 and won the team's Offensive Player of the Year Award as he posted 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points during 33 games
- Three-year member of the varsity hockey team at Austin Prep where he totaled 32 goals and 43 assists for 75 points
- Also at Austin Prep he was named a League All-Star and was the team captain in 2017-18
- Was a member of the first baseball team to win a state championship at Austin Prep
JEREMY FORMAN

BEFORE UNH:
- Played in 27 games during the 2019-20 season for the Corpus Christi IceRays (NAHL)
- Posted a .906 save percentage and a 2.70 goals against average
- Member of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres (OJHL) for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season
- Appeared in 32 games during the 2018-19 season with a .910 save percentage and a 2.68 goals against average
- Played in 17 games during the 2017-18 season with a 2.97 goals against average
- Attended Glenbrook North High School
CAM GENDRON

COACH SOUZA: "Cam brings us size and versatility and is someone who's game has continued to evolve which is what was appealing to us."
BEFORE UNH:
- Played in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons for the New Jersey Titans (NAHL)
- Totaled 23 goals and 36 assists for 59 points over 106 games played
- In the 2019-20 season, he appeared in 50 games with 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points, while he tallied seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points over 56 games played in 2018-19
- Two-year member of the varsity hockey team at the Winchendon School where he was a senior captain and recorded 28 goals and 53 assists for 81 points over 56 career games
- Won the team's Sportsmanship Award (2018) and the Jason Ritchie Scholarship Award (2017)
- Played the 2014-2015 and 2015-16 seasons at Central Catholic High School where he recorded 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points over 41 games.
NIKOLAI JENSON

BEFORE UNH:
- Played the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) where he totaled six goals and nine assists for 15 points over 100 games
- Posted three goals and two assists for five points during the 2019-20 season, while he tallied three goals and seven assists for 10 points during 2018-19
- Member of the Shreveport Mudbugs (NAHL) for the 2017-18 season as the team won the Robertson Cup National Championship
- Recorded one goal and eight assists for nine points over 35 contests
- Played three seasons of varsity hockey at ROCORI High School with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points over 71 games
JOE NAGLE

COACH SOUZA: "Joe is a natural leader and a player we feel will bring grit and depth to our d corps."
BEFORE UNH:
- Appeared in 12 games with the New Jersey Titans (NAHL) after a late season trade in the 2019-20 season as he posted two assists for two points
- Played four seasons and 155 games for the Northeast Generals (NAHL), totaling six goals and 48 assists for 54 points
- As the team captain in 2019-20, he posted three goals and 19 assists for 22 points over 38 games
- Represented the Generals at the 2020 Top Prospects Game
- During the 2018-19 season he recorded two goals and 15 assists for 17 points over 41 games
- Attended Weymouth High School
LUKE REID

COACH SOUZA: "Luke is someone that we feel will step in and be able to play in any situation as he is a very mature young man who will bring value to our program in many different ways."
BEFORE UNH:
- Played for the Chicago Steel (USHL) in 2018-2019 and 2019-20 where he totaled four goals and 34 assists for 38 points over 105 games
- Posted two goals and 17 assists for 19 points each season as he earned USHL Defenseman of the Week honors on March 25, 2019
- Team won the 2019-20 Anderson Cup for winning the USHL regular season championship
- Named to the U.S. Junior Select Team for World Junior A Challenge as he won a Bronze Medal
- Member of the Penticton Vees (BCHL) for the 2017-18 season as he recorded two goals and 16 assists for 18 points over 54 games
- Attended Penn High School
CARSEN RICHELS

COACH SOUZA: "Carsen can really shoot the puck, has excellent offensive instincts and is someone we think will be tough to defend in and around the net."
BEFORE UNH:
- Three-year member of the varsity hockey team at Blaine High School and was the team captain as a senior in 2019-20
- Was named the team's Offensive MVP (2019-20) and Rookie of the Year (2017-18)
- Was a 2020 Minnesota Mr. Hockey finalist and a Star Tribune Second Team All-Metro honoree, while he earned All-Conference accolades three times and was named to the 2018-2019 Minnesota State AA All-Tournament Team
- Ranked fourth in school history in goals (83), assists (85) and points (168), while he was second in points per game at 2.0 points per game
- Recorded 27 goals and 26 assists for 53 points during the 2019-20 season; tallied 42 goals and 41 assists for 83 points during the 2018-2019 season; and totaled 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points during the 2017-2018 season
