The first-year striker tallied two goals in her second career appearance.
BOSTON – University of New Hampshire freshman midfielder/forward Whitney Wiley (Vienna, Va.) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week the league announced Monday morning.
Wiley had been named a starter in UNH's first two games of the season this past weekend, and in her second appearance, against Sacred Heart, Wiley tallied goals in the 17th minute and 46th minute in a 3-0 victory over the Pioneers.
Both Wiley's goals came on through-ball passes from senior teammate Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.) into the 18-yard box. Wiley's first goal, the eventual game-winner, came from the right side of the box, shooting right to left across the goalmouth beating the keeper low-left side.
Her second came in the opening seconds of the second half, as Reynolds sent another ball into the 18, this time on the left side. Wiley struck with her left foot and once again went lower left corner for her second of the afternoon.
Wiley and the Wildcats head to Burlington, Vermont for the TD Bank Classic hosted by the University of Vermont. New Hampshire will face Merrimack on Friday, August 30 (4:30 P.M.) and North Dakota State on Sunday, September 1 (3:30 P.M.).
