Wildcats Conclude Season with Loss at #2 UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Brett Boeing scored two goals and Filip Lindberg posted a shutout for the Minutemen as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 2 UMass, 6-0, on Saturday evening in game two of the best two-out-of-three Hockey East Tournament quarterfinal series at the Mullins Center. The Minutemen win the series and advance to the semifinals at the TD Garden on Friday, March 22. UMass won game one on Friday by a 5-4 score in double overtime. The No. 8 seed Wildcats conclude the season 12-15-9 overall, while the No. 1 seed and No. 2 nationally ranked Minutemen improve to 28-8-0 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 4:36 of the first period, Cale Makar gave UMass a 1-0 lead with a power play goal as he fired a one-timer from the left faceoff circle to the lower stick side of the net.
- The Minutemen moved out to a 2-0 lead at 7:27 as Jacob Pritchard collected a loose puck from in front of the net and then sent a shot over a diving sophomore goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.).
- UMass took a 3-0 lead at 12:45 as Brett Boeing took a shot from the slot that was saved by Robinson but he was able to then knock in the rebound for the goal.
- At 14:37, Bobby Trivigno scored for UMass as the Minutemen took a 4-0 advantage as he deflected a shot by Makar. After the goal freshman goalie Ty Taylor (Richmond, British Columbia) replaced Robinson in net.
- UMass outshot UNH, 10-6, while the Wildcats went 0-1 on the power play and the Minutemen went 1-2.
- At 4:52 of the second period, Colin Felix scored on a wrist shot for his first collegiate goal to make it a 5-0 game.
- Boeing then netted his second goal of the game at 8:33 as he scored on a rebound off a shot by John Leonard to make it a 6-0 contest.
- Each team took six shots for the period, while the Wildcats went 0-2 on the man-advantage.
- Neither team scored in the third period for the 6-0 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UMass outshot UNH by a 25-18 margin.
- Robinson made five saves and allowed four goals during the first 14:37, while Taylor allowed two goals and posted 14 saves. Philip Linberg tallied 18 saves to earn the shutout.
- The Wildcats went 0-3 on the power play and the Minutemen went 1-3.
