KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior defender Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) and graduate student midfielder Jacob Mannix (Longmeadow, Mass.) of the University of the New Hampshire men's soccer team have been named to the Scholar All-East Region First Team as announced by United Soccer Coaches. Both Wildcats also received America East All-Academic Team accolades earlier this season.
Bauer, who just recently was named the first player in program history to earn first team All-America honors, has a 3.35 overall GPA as a Biomedical Science major. Bauer has received numerous accolades this season including All-Northeast Region first team honors for the second straight season, the first player in school history to be a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, ECAC and America East Defender of the Year for the second straight season, America East Tournament MVP for the second consecutive year and All-America East first team for the second straight year. This season he had four goals and five assists for 13 points. Bauer has played in 57 career games with 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points.
Mannix, who is an Analytics major, recorded a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student and a 3.53 as an undergraduate. He is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, while he is a two-time member of the America East Commissioners Honor Roll. He played in all 20 games this season with 16 starts. He contributed to a defense that only allowed 11 goals all year and posted the best team goals against average in the nation (0.528).
The Wildcats concluded the 2019 season with a 15-2-3 (.825) record, posting the best winning percentage in program history and tying the school record for wins. The Wildcats won the America East Co-Regular Season championship, earning the title for only the second time in program history. Then UNH captured its second straight America East Tournament championship, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round was the second time in the last three years the Wildcats have won a NCAA Tournament game. UNH was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll every week except the first week reaching a season-best No. 13 ranking.
