New Hampshire is 1-0 in the 2019-20 Border Battle.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team defeated the University of Maine Blackbears by a score of 2-0 on Thursday night.

Both goals were scored by senior Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.) The second goal was assisted by Sofia Borea (Oakville, Ontario).

This game was UNH's first head to head game of this year against UMaine; with the win the Wildcats are now 1-0 in the Border Battle sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will be traveling to West Hartford Connecticut to take on Hartford. The game will take place on Al-Marzook field at 1 pm on Sunday October 20th.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Ally Reynolds scored the opening goal in the ninth minute of the game. Off a Maine turnover Reynolds dribbled down the left sideline and swept it past the goalie shooting it towards the lower left side of the goal with her left foot.
Maine tried to come right back shooting for the net as Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) charged the ball to block the initial shot by the Black Bears who took another shot that went wide right of the net.
From that point in the first half it became a possession battle and a fight with strong winds; Maine had the wind in the first, UNH in the second, with both teams attempting long through-balls towards the box but the wind would push it to the opposing 'keeper who would win the race.
In the 84^th minute, Sofia Borea centered the ball to Reynolds who shot a one-timer at the top of the 18 that went right down the middle past the opposing goalkeeper.
Maine once again answered right back two minutes later, pushing the ball downfield and got a shot off at the top of the 18; Maine took a powerful shot but it was stopped by a leaping Cat Sheppard to keep the score 2-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Ally Reynolds tallied two shots on goal, scoring on both of them.
Cat Sheppard managed three saves for her fourth clean sheet of the season.
- UNH stands with four total shuts out this season, Maine has five.
In the first half, UNH led the possession battle 57%-43%; Maine battled back in the second and the game ended at an even 50%/50%.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

Ally Reynolds scored within the first nine minutes of the game breaking the record of earliest goal this year which was 10:25
The Wildcats are now 8-5-0 all-time when playing Maine at home. This is the first meeting of the two teams at Wildcat Stadium.
Reynolds now has a team-high six goals on the season, along with three assists for a team-leading 15 points.
UNH is now 4-1-0 in games after a loss.
With the win the Wildcats now have nine conference points and sit in fifth place, leap-frogging over Binghamton.
