Maultsby Records 10 Points, Seven Rebounds in 62-44 Loss at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) and David Watkins (Dorchester, Mass.) paced the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team with 10 points apiece in a 62-44 loss to Stony Brook University at Island Federal Credit Union Arena on Saturday night.
Maultsby also led the Wildcats in both rebounds (seven) and assists (three). He also had a steal and a block in 30 minutes, which matched a career high. Watkins' other stats included five rebounds and a steal.
SBU was led offensively by Elijah Olaniyi (15 points) and Akwasi Yeboah (13). Miles Latimer recorded a double-double with 11 points and game-high 14 rebounds. Jaron Cornish contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
UNH is 3-13 overall and 1-2 in America East. Stony Brook extended its win streak to five games to improve to 15-3, 3-0.

FIRST HALF
* Both teams struggled in the opening minutes as UNH held a 5-4 lead at the first media timeout (at 15:44). The Wildcats made 2 of 7 field goals, including 1-for-6 on 3-pointers, in the opening four minutes, while SBU was 2-for-5 with three turnovers.
* Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) drilled a 3-pointer from the top-right to give the 'Cats an 8-5 lead at 14:51.
* SBU went on an 8-2 run to take a 12-10 lead at 9:14.
* Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) drove the lane for a layup to tie the score, 12-12, at 8:51 but the Seawolves responded with a 6-2 spurt to take an 18-14 lead at 5:02.
* Maultsby hit a 3-pointer from the right wing and dribbled through the lane for a layup on the right side of the rim to put UNH back in front, 19-18, at 2:53.
* Stony Brook called a 30-second timeout, scored four consecutive points on free throws and then took its largest lead of the half, 24-19, at 1:23.
* Jordan made a driving layup off the left side of the glass to trim the deficit to three points with just under a minute remaining, but the Seawolves made two more foul shots with 30.9 seconds on the clock to take a 26-21 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
* SBU scored the first seven points of the second half to extend the advantage to double digits, 33-21, at 17:57.
* Maultsby hit a pull-up jumper at the foul line to stop the run, but SBU scored the next five points to push the advantage to 37-23 at 15:19.
* Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) made a 3-ball from the right corner trim the margin to 11 points at 14:16.
* Leading 46-34 with nine minutes remaining, the Seawolves went on a 12-0 run to push the advantage beyond 20 points, 58-34, at 6:47.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
* New Hampshire has a 17-19 lifetime record against Stony Brook. The Seawolves have won six of the last seven meetings and five straight at home.
UNH NOTEBOOK
* Martinez recorded two blocks in a game for the fourth time this season. He has a team-high 11 blocks this season.
* Jordan also had a block to increase his season total to 10. He also had eight points, three rebounds and an assist.
* Hopkins, who scored 19 and 24 points the previous two games, was held to three points on 1-for-11 shooting from the floor; that included 1 of 7 on 3-pointers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
* There were four ties and six lead changes in the game.
* UNH, which entered the game averaging 11.8 turnovers per game -- second best in the America East conference -- turned the ball over 11 times in the first half and had a .310 field goal percentage (9-29) in the opening 20 minutes.
* The 'Cats finished with 16 turnovers and a .281 shooting percentage (second lowest of the season). UNH made 5 of 29 3-point attempts (17.2 percent).
* New Hampshire's defense held the Seawolves to a .367 field goal percentage that included 20 percent (4-20) on 3's. SBU entered the game averaging 74.1 points per game on a .431 FG percentage.
* Stony Brook recorded a 52-35 rebounding advantage that included 34-18 in the second half. SBU had 12 offensive rebounds and 12 second-chance points in the second half.
