Holmes Named EISA Male Nordic Skier of Week

Senior Earned 10K Classic Win & Placed Sixth in 20K Free at UVM Carnival
DURHAM, N.H. – Peter Holmes (Tahoe City, Calif.), a senior for the University of New Hampshire ski team, was named the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) Male Nordic Skier of the Week for his performance in last weekend's University of Vermont Carnival (Feb. 2-3).
Holmes earned his first career EISA victory in Saturday's 10K classic at Craftsbury Outdoor Center one day after leading the 'Cats Nordic efforts with a sixth-place finish in the 20K freestyle mass start.
With three weekends remaining in the EISA Carnival season, Holmes is ranked third in the East in NCAA Qualifiers Best 2+2 Combined with 213 points. He is No. 1 overall in classical racing with 160 points, which is 30 points ahead of second-ranked Luke Brown of Dartmouth.
Holmes, who has been the Wildcat men's Nordic team MVP the past two seasons, is bidding for a third straight NCAA Championship berth. The kinesiology: sport studies major was named to the All-East Second Team in 2017, when he was also inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, and was tabbed to the National Ski Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
The UNH ski team competes at the Dartmouth Carnival on Feb. 9-10 with Nordic action scheduled for Dartmouth XC Ski Center at Oak Hill and alpine racing on tap at Dartmouth Skiway. For more information on the UNH ski team, visit www.unhwildcats.com.
