ALBANY, N.Y. – Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) gave the University of New Hampshire field hockey team a 1-0 lead and Kesley Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) made eight saves, but 24^th-ranked University at Albany rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory at Alumni Turf on Sunday afternoon.

Rudert recorded four saves in both halves, including one on a penalty stroke.

Albany's Frederike Helmke tied the game in the 44^th minute and Elaina Burchell scored 5:02 into the extra session. Melissa Nealon was credited with three saves.

UNH is now 3-9 overall and 1-3 in America East. Albany improved to 9-3, 3-1.

NEXT GAME

UNH returns to action Oct. 11 at 16^th-ranked Wake Forest. Game time is 1 p.m.
The Wildcats' next home game is Oct. 19 (3 p.m.) against UMass Lowell.

GAME RECAP

Albany threatened in the opening minutes as Ghislaine Beerkens' shot hit the post and led directly to a penalty stroke. Helmke was denied on that stroke by Rudert to keep the game scoreless at 4:06.
UNH recorded its first shot in the ninth minute, when Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) was stopped by Nealon.
The teams entered halftime scoreless with Albany holding the advantage in shots (10-2) and corners (6-3).
Caron gave New Hampshire a 1-0 lead at 39:25 when, from five yards out, she angled her stick on the turf to redirect the Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.) entry pass from outside of the top of the circle high inside the right post.
Albany converted a corner into a goal and 1-1 tie at 43:16. Viola Von der Muhlen's entry to the top of the circle was stopped by Helmke, who then drilled a low shot inside the left post.
Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie with Albany holding the edge in shots (16-5) and corners (9-3).
Helmke's long entry from near midfield deflected off Katie MacCullum's stick Burhcell in the middle of the circle, where she pushed the ball to the right and fired a low shot inside the near post.

NOTEBOOK

Caron is now tied with Bailey Fanikos (Lynnfield, Mass.) for the team lead in both goals (four) and points (eight).
This is the second consecutive game between the Wildcats and Great Danes that ended 2-1 in overtime. UNH prevailed by that score in the 2017 America East semifinal game at UMass Lowell.
New Hampshire has a 2-3 record in games decided by one goal this season.
UNH has a 1-5 record against nationally-ranked teams.
The Wildcats' stretch of three road games vs. nationally-ranked teams in a span of eight days continues Thursday, Oct. 11 at No. 16 Wake Forest. The 'Cats then play at 17^th-ranked Maine on Oct. 14.
