UNH Clinches Playoff Spot with 2-0 Win Versus UMass Lowell

The Wildcats improve to 8-0-0 at Wildcat Stadium.
DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) and junior Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) each scored a goal, and graduate student Lars Huxsohl (Hamburg, Germany) posted a shutout to give the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team a 2-0 victory over UMass Lowell at Wildcat Stadium on Friday on Senior Night. The Wildcats improve to 9-3-2 (3-2-1 AE) and clinch a spot in the America East Tournament, while the River Hawks fall to 8-5-2 (3-3-0 AE).

Chris Arling has played in 52 career games, scoring 22 goals with seven assists for 51 points. He has earned numerous honors throughout his career including All-East Region Second Team, America East First Team, America East All-Rookie Team, CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and America East All-Academic Team.

Kyle Brewster has played in 55 career games with 36 starts. He has recorded two goals and one assist. Last year, he was named to the America East All-Tournament Team. This year he is a part of a defense that is ranked 13th in the nation in team goals against average. Kyle has also been strong in the classroom as a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Siggi Geirsson has played in 23 career games with 19 starts. He has one goal and one assist for three points. He has shown strong leadership as he was named the team captain for the 2018 season. Siggi has also been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Lars Huxsohl has started in all 14 games this season. He has been outstanding as he is ranked 16th in the nation in goals against average and 19th with seven shutouts. Earlier this season he was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week.

Jacob Mannix has played in 15 career games. This season he has played in a career-best nine games with seven starts and posted his first collegiate point with an assist. He has also been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Nick Miller has played in 21 career games. Nick has been outstanding in the classroom throughout his career as he is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Honor Society and has been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Adam Norman has played in 15 career games with five assists for the Wildcats. He has been strong in the classroom through his career as he has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Alex Valencia has had an outstanding four-year career with the Wildcats, playing in 68 career games. He has scored five goals with six assists for 16 points. Alex has also been strong in the classroom as a member of the America East Academic Honor Roll.

Juan Velazquez has played in 28 career games with 27 starts. As a junior he scored two goals with one game winner. Juan has been a part of a defense that is ranked 13th in the nation in goals against average.

- The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m., when they take on Vermont at Virtue Field in Burlington, Vt., to conclude the regular season. The six-team America East Tournament starts on Saturday, Nov. 3 with the quarterfinals, while the semis are on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 11. The top two teams earn a bye to the semifinal round.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 14th minute, red-shirt freshman Jonny Wolf (Hopkinton, Mass.) ripped a shot right on UMass Lowell goaltender Patrik Gujic, who made a save but was immediately forced to make a diving block off of senior Alex Valencia's (Tracy, Calif.) follow-up shot.
- In the 28th minute (27:15) sophomore Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) buried a bouncing ball from junior Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) into the back of the net from the middle of the box to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
- In the 37th minute (36:49) of the first half, junior Antonio Colacci sent a ball in from 18 yards out on a set piece, which sophomore Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) headed towards the net, allowing junior Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) to knock the ball into the lower right half of the goal. Brewster's goal gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead against the River Hawks going into the second half.

- By the end of the first half, the Wildcats tallied nine shots while the River Hawks had one.
- Graduate student Lars Huxsohl (Hamburg, Germany) made his first save of the night in the 69th minute off of a shot just inside the 20-yard mark from UMass Lowell's Abdi Shariff-Hassan.
- Neither team scored before the clock ran out, keeping the final score 2-0 in favor of the Wildcats.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Huxsohl made two saves during the game while Gujic had eight.
- The Wildcats earned four corner kicks while the River Hawks recorded two.
- By the end of the game, UNH outshot UMass Lowell 14-5.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- With his goal tonight, Fallberg now has three goals on the season and six in his collegiate career.
- Brewster's goal was his first of the season and the second of his collegiate career.
- This Wildcat victory improves Huxsohl's shutout count to seven.
- The Wildcats remained undefeated at Wildcat Stadium during the regular season with a record of 8-0-0, improving their all-time record to 18-0-3.
- UNH has outscored its opponents 37-8 over the 21 games played at the stadium.
