#16 Wildcats Defeat Holy Cross, 2-0, To Remain Undefeated

DURHAM, N.H. – Graduate student Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H) and junior Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) scored the two goals as the No. 16 University of New Hampshire Wildcats defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 2-0, at Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday night. With the win, the Wildcats continue their undefeated season with a 5-0-1 record. Graduate student Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H) recorded his fifth shutout of the season, 13th of his career, and has allowed only one goal all year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first shot on goal was from junior Kristian Piippo (Hønefoss, Norway), from 26 yards out. Holy Cross goalie Henry Stutz moved from left to right to block the shot.
- The Wildcats drew first blood, scoring in the 27th minute (26:16). The goal was scored by Griffith, his first as a Wildcat. It came off a free kick from junior Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) and Griffith headed the ball into the left corner.
- Pesci made a beautiful diving save in the 45th minute of the game. Yuji Callahan of the Crusaders ripped a shot on goal from 15 yards out, but Pesci ran from right to left, leapt through the air, and made the save.
- Junior Chris Arling scored in the 73rd minute (72:18) with an assist from sophomore Antonio Colacci. He went on a breakaway, and from eight yards away rocketed a shot into the right corner of the goal.
- Pesci recorded his fifth shutout of the season, and the 13th of his career. He made one save during the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Pesci has now saved 13 of the 14 shots that he has faced on the year.
- Stutz made six saves during the game.
- The Wildcats recorded eight shots on goal compared to one for Holy Cross.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- With the win, the Wildcats are 5-0-1 on the season.
- Griffith recorded his first goal as a Wildcat.
