HOW IT HAPPENED
It was hard fought regulation that was decided in the final 1:34. UNH led by eight, 65-57, but UMBC crawled back on a few costly Wildcat turnovers and defensive mistakes ending regulation with a 70-70 tie.
In the first overtime period. UNH took a lead with 2:24 to play on a Camara layup in the lane. UNH led until UMBC's Jairus Lyles, who finished with 33 points, drilled a 3-pointer to knot it up at 83 apiece with 15 seconds left. The game went into double overtime for the second time this season.
In the final overtime frame, UNH retook a lead from another Camara lay in which was erased by a free throw and layup from UMBC. Camara hit two free throws with 3:03 to go which put UNH up one but Arkel Lamar sliced the defense and scored for a Retriever lead, 88-87, with 2:45 to play. Arkel finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats took the lead for good on another Camara basket with 38 seconds to play which sealed the deal.
