Jacob Gould's second goal of the season was the difference in UNH's 1-0 victory in the America East Quarterfinals.

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman midfielder Jacob Gould (Exeter, N.H.) scored the lone University of New Hampshire goal on Saturday evening, but it was enough as the Wildcat defense held the Stony Brook Seawolves to one shot on goal for a 1-0 victory in the America East Quarterfinals.

The Wildcats, now 12-2-4 on the season, will advance to the Semifinals to face the UMass Lowell River Hawks on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) posted a shutout stopping the only shot he faced, in the victory; his record is also 12-2-4 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats came out firing, testing Stony Brook goalkeeper Tom McMahon with three shots on goal in the first 24 minutes of action; all saved by McMahon.
In the 39^th minute, Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) rocketed a shot just wide on one of UNH's better scoring chances of the half.
Gould had a chance at the end of the first half with a shot just over the crossbar in the 44^th minute.
Fallberg got another chance early in the 2^nd half; his shot came from about seven feet out to the left of the goal, inching just wide and out of play off the goalie's hands for a corner kick.
Stony Brook got their first shot on goal of the game off a corner kick as Eric McKenna took a shot off the kick and Pesci made a diving stop as the UNH defense cleared the ball away from danger.
Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) had two blocked shots in the 67^th minute that, if it weren't for Seawolf defenders, would've broken the stalemate.
Just four minutes later in the 71^st minute, Gould got a feed from Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) and dribbled towards the box. He took a shot from the top of the box, and the ball just beat McMahon to the upper-left corner of the goal to put the Wildcats on the board.
Stony Brook attempted two more shots in retaliation after the Wildcat goal; the first was blocked, the second sailed over the crossbar.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

New Hampshire outshot Stony Brook 8-1 in the first half, 19-6 overall.
Stony Brook only had one shot on goal; it came in the second half off a corner kick. UNH outshot the Seawolves 7-1 in shots on goal.
Stony Brook was without a corner kick in the first half, but had the advantage in the second half 5-4.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

Pesci posted his 10^th shutout of the season, facing and stopping only one shot.
The Wildcats remain undefeated at home, 9-0-3 on the season.
Gould's goal was his second of the season and his first game-winning goal o the season. His first goal of the season was the game-tying goal against Columbia.
