#21 Wildcats Fall to UMass Lowell in Semis, 2-1

NCAA Selection Show will be on Monday, Nov. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
LOWELL, Mass. – Ivan Blaskic and Ivan Abramovic each scored for the River Hawks as the No. 21 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to UMass Lowell, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at Cushing Field in the America East semifinals. The Wildcats are now 12-3-4 overall, while the River Hawks improve to 10-6-1 and will host the America East championship game versus Albany on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN3.

- The Wildcats, who currently are ranked No. 17 in the RPI, are looking to earn their second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance with an at-large bid to the 48-team tournament. UNH's first appearance was 1994. The NCAA Tournament selection show will be on Monday, Nov. 13 at 1:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Jack Doherty fired a shot from 20 yards out that hit the post in the 11th minute.
- The River Hawks took a 1-0 lead when Blaskic sent a header to the bottom right corner of the net off a pass from Dario Jovanovski in the 26th minute (25:14).
- Then Austin Kroll made back-to-back saves on attempts by Doherty to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard.
- UMass Lowell increased its lead when Abramovic fired a shot from 12 yards out that deflected off UNH goalie Andrew Pesci to the back of the net in the 75th minute (74:23).
- Just 1:21 later, the Wildcats cut the UMass Lowell lead to 2-1 when graduate student Willis Griffith scored on a header from five yards out in the 76th minute (75:44). Graduate student Dante Lamb sent a free kick to red-shirt freshman Josh Bauer who passed it to Griffith for the goal.
- The Wildcats were unable to score the equalizer for the 2-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Wildcats outshot the River Hawks, 13-8, while UNH took five shots on goal and UMass Lowell posted four.
- Pesci made two saves, while Kroll recorded four.
