Bauer Scores Twice as The Wildcats Defeat the Hawks 3-0.

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team hosted the Hartford Hawks for their first home conference match of the year, and freshman Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) scored two goals as the Wildcats defeated the Hawks 3-0 for their first conference victory of the season on Saturday evening.
Bauer's two goals were assisted by Antonio Colacci (Bradenton, Fl.), and the third goal was supplied by Robin Schmidt (Cologne, Germany). Goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) stopped all four shots he faced for his eighth shutout of the season. He now holds a 7-1-3 record.

- The Wildcats will travel to Albany, N.Y. on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to face the Great Danes at 7 p.m. They return home Saturday, Oct. 14 to host the Binghamton Bearcats for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The scoring chances came early for UNH, starting with a ninth-minute shot off the crossbar by Siggi Geirsson (Reykjavik, Iceland).
- Bauer and Colacci got their first strike in the 17th minute, as Colacci tee'd up a free kick from about 45 yards out, and the kick bounced into the box and found a charging Bauer, who tapped it into the net straight on.
- UNH's second goal came in the 29th minute as Schmidt got a great service from Geirsson from the right side. The ball met Schmidt in the middle of the box and he put it past the Hartford 'keeper to go up 2-0.
- Bauer and Colacci would strike again in the 51st minute, as Colacci took a corner kick from the right side, and the ball went straight to Bauer's head and into the net.
- In the 60th minute, Hartford took a corner kick sending a dangerous ball into the box, but Pesci punched the ball out of harms way to preserve the shutout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- New Hampshire outshot Hartford 19-9 overall, 9-4 in shots on goal.
- Pesci only needed to make one save in the first half.
- Bauer had three shots on goal in the contest.
