#23 Wildcats Score Two Late Goals To Win Thriller At Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. – With the Wildcats trailing 1-0 with 10 minutes left in the second half, UNH scored two straight goals to earn the victory as the No. 23 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated Albany, 2-1, on Wednesday night. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 8-1-3 overall and 2-1-0 in America East, while the Great Danes fall to 9-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in America East. Sophomore Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) tied the game in the 80th minute, while graduate student Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.) netted the game winner in the 87th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless first half, the Great Danes took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute (65:14), when Nico Solabarrieta stole the ball and then sent a shot to the left side of the net.
- But in the 80th minute (79:27), Doherty scored on a one-timer from the top of the box off a pass by senior Dante Lamb (Cape Town, South Africa) to tie the game at 1-1.
- Then with just 3:15 left in the second half, Griffith found the back of the net on a header off a set piece to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. Lamb sent the ball to red-shirt freshman Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) who redirected it to Griffith.
- With just 10 seconds remaining, a shot by Jeff Medina went wide as the Wildcats secured the 2-1 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Graduate student Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) made one save to earn the win, while Lucas Vallili also posted one save for Albany.
- The Wildcats took three shots on goal, while the Great Danes posted two.
