Smith Tallies 1,000th Career Point in 76-62 Loss at Providence

Providence, R.I. – Senior guard Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team scored his 1,000th career point in the 76-62 loss to Providence College, Wednesday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNH got on the board with an Camara layup through traffic just over two minutes into the game. A few possessions later, Dion found Smith at the top of the key for a deep transition three. Smith followed up with a pull-up jumper to put the Wildcats ahead 9-7 with 14:16 remaining in the half. After a handful of Friar buckets, Smith proved the bank stays open late with a deep three off the glass as the shot clock wound down. Fresh out of the 8:00 media timeout, Camara finished with an inside hook to make it 22-21 Providence. Junior Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) got on the board with 1:52 left in the half to split two late Friar runs. Providence shot 54.5 percent from deep to take a 39-23 lead over the Wildcats heading into halftime. The Friars' Rodney Bullock finished the half with 19 points.
The Wildcats opened the half with a triple from Smith to provide an early spark. Love played fearless as he finished two crafty layups through Friar traffic to cut into the Providence lead. The 'Cats caught fire from deep as Watkins and Dion put in three consecutive triples to make it a 58-44 game with 10 minutes left. At the 7:19 mark, Smith nailed two free throws to give him his 1,000th point. On the ensuing possessions, Camara finished a transition layup followed by a deep Smith three. With 2:14 remaining, Smith finished a euro step layup in transition to slice the Friar lead to 11 heading into the final stretch.
