Men's Hockey Plays Host to Northeastern (Sat., 7 p.m., WBIN/FCS)

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team is set to face Northeastern at the Whittemore Center on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a game that will air live on WBIN-TV and FOX College Sports.
The Wildcats' host the University of Notre Dame for a weekend series beginning Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Limited tickets are available by calling the Whittemore Center Ticket Office at (603) 862-4000 extension 5 or by visiting www.UNHWildcats.com.

What to Know...
- The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team (8-8-4, 2-2-4 HE) are coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to No. 10 UMass Lowell Friday, Jan. 8 at the Whittemore Center.
- The game was scoreless between the two teams for the first 57 minutes, 16 seconds until the River Hawks broke the stalemate in what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
- Sophomore netminder Danny Tirone made 26 saves on 27 shots faced while junior defenseman Matias Cleland took a game-high five shots.
- New Hampshire is led by the nation's leading scorer in sophomore Andrew Poturalski. He has 18 goals, also a nation high, and 18 assists for 36 points. He is averaging 1.80 points per game and 0.90 goals per game.
- Junior Tyler Kelleher leads the country in assists (28) and is second in the country in points (34). Both Poturalski and Kelleher are tops in the country in power play points. Poturalski has 16 (6g, 10a) while Kelleher has 14 (2g, 12a).
- Senior Dan Correale is tied for first in the country in power play goals with eight.
- Tirone has started all 18 games he has played and holds a record of 6-8-4 with one shutout. He has a goals against average of 3.30 and a save percentage of .898.
- The Huskies (5-12-2, 0-8-3 HE) are coming off a road-sweep of now No. 18 St. Lawrence University with a 3-0 win on Friday, Jan. 8 and a 4-2 win on Saturday, Jan. 9.
- Sam Kurker and Lincoln Griffin each had a goal and an assist in the 24-save shutout win by Ryan Ruck as Nolan Stevens and Matt Benning each had a pair of goals in the Saturday win. Adam Gaudette notched three assists in the game.
- Northeastern is led by junior Zach Aston-Reese who has 19 points on six goals and 13 assists. Nolan Stevens is the leading goal scorer for NU with nine. He adds seven assists for 16 points.
- Ruck has spent the majority of time in net for the Huskies and comes in with a record of 3-9-3 and a shutout. He has a goals against average of 2.65 and a save percentage of .901.
- The Wildcats rank ninth in the country in goals per game (3.55) and are the fifth-best power play team in the nation, converting at a clip of 26.9 percent.
- Paul Thompson, a former Wildcat and cousin of UNH associate head coach Mike Souza, is the latest 'Cat to play in the National Hockey League. He made his debut on Friday, Jan. 8 for the New Jersey Devils as they played the Boston Bruins.
- The Wildcats host the University of Notre Dame for a pair of games, starting Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. and continuing Saturday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. Limited tickets are available at www.UNHWildcats.com.
Powering the Power Play: Senior forward Dan Correale is tied for the top spot in the nation with eight power play goals. He his averaging 0.40 per game.
Kelleher Closing in on 100 Points: Junior forward Tyler Kelleher is just eight points away from 100 for his career. The last time a junior hit the Century Club was in 2005-06 when Jacob Micflikier and Brett Hemingway each had over 100 points in junior standing. Kelleher had 16 points (5g, 11a) as a freshman and 42 points (18g, 24a) as a sophomore.
Four in the First: UNH started off the game against Dartmouth (Dec. 11) with four goals in the first period. It was the first time the team had scored four in the first since Nov. 22, 2011 vs. Harvard.
Points for Pots: Sophomore Andrew Poturalski leads the nation in goals (18) and in points (36). He is averaging 1.80 points per game and 0.90 goals per game, also tops in the nation in both categories.
Picking Apples: Tyler Kelleher is ranked first in the nation in assists (28) and assists per game (1.40).
Fifty for Danny: Sophomore netminder Danny Tirone made a career-high 50 saves in Friday's 3-3 draw at Maine. He was the first UNH netminder with at least 50 saves since 2012.
The Ultimate Warrior: Sophomore forward Andrew Poturalski earned his second consecutive Warrior Player of the Week accolade, announced by Hockey East on Dec. 7. He earned the title on Nov. 30 and was named the Warrior Player of the Month for November and repeated for December.
Goals, Goals, Goals! The Wildcats defeated the Black Bears by a score of 7-0 on Dec. 30. The Last time UNH had a margin of victory of at least seven goals was Nov. 9, 2013 in a 9-0 win over UMass. That game was also the last time seven different Wildcats recorded at least one goal.
Light it Up Up Up: Freshman forward Marcus Vela notched his first collegiate goal in Saturday's 5-4 win over Bentley on Saturday (Nov. 28).
The 'CPK' Line: The line combination of Correale, Poturalski and Kelleher has a combined total of 88 points on the year with 37 goals and 51 assists.
Multi-Point Production: Andrew Poturalski has had no fewer than two points in each game that he has recorded points in.
Keeping up with Correale: Senior forward Dan Correale has already tallied more goals this season than any of his previous seasons. Thus far, he has 13 while having four as a junior and sophomore and three as a rookie.
Throw the Hats! Senior alternate captain Dan Correale scored a career high three goals at UMass (Oct. 23) for his first career hat trick. It was the first hat trick for a UNH player since Grayson Downing scored three against Maine on Dec. 13, 2014.

Road Warriors: The men's hockey team will travel a total of 4,705.40 miles this season for road games. The biggest journey is 828 miles one way to Michigan State. The shortest trip is 34.4 miles to the Verizon Wireless Arena.
