Skiing Finishes Third at St. Michael's Carnival

HUNTINGTON & SMUGGLERS' NOTCH, Vt. – Randa Teschner (Petawawa, Ontario) took fourth place in women's slalom and Phil Rivet (Saint-Lambert, Quebec) placed fourth in men's slalom to help the University of New Hampshire skiing team finish in third place at the St. Michael's Carnival, which concluded Saturday.
UNH scored 666 points to finish behind the University of Vermont (883) and Dartmouth (716); the Wildcats edged Middlebury College (653), with Colby College (563) taking fifth place.
At Smugglers' Notch, Teschner paired a first-run of 54.77 seconds and a second run of 54.69 for a combined 1:49.46, which was 1.71 seconds behind winner Kristina Riis-Johannessen of Vermont. Teschner posted 41 points, Kelly DiNapoli (Ludlow, Vt.) registered 24 points by finishing in 1:56.02 for 19th place and Katie Farrow (Toronto, Ontario) added five points with her 45th-place time of 2:11.40. The Wildcat women's alpine team finished in fifth place in women's SL with 70 points.
The UNH men's alpine scored 102 points for second place in SL behind Vermont (136). The Wildcats were led by Rivet, who racked up 41 points courtesy of a two-run time of 1:43.06, including 50.23 seconds on his first run. The freshman finished 2.28 seconds behind the victorious William St.-Germain of UVM. Coley Oliver (Salt Lake City, Utah) notched a Top-10 result by crossing the line in a combined 1:43.57 for ninth place (33 points). Chris Steinke (Ottawa, Ontario), who finished in 1:44.69, edged teammate Jay Ogle (Pittsfield, Mass.) by .25 seconds for 13th place and the Wildcats' final 28 points.
The men's and women's Nordic team of Katrin Larusson (Truckee, Calif.), Per Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden), Tristan Ramey (Anchorage, Alaska) and Eirik Fosnaes (Hovik, Norway) finished fourth in the 4x3K freestyle relay race at Sleepy Hollow. Lindgren recorded the team's fastest individual time of 8 minutes, 51.0 seconds, followed by Fosnaes (8:58.6), Larusson (10:24.4) and Ramey (10:52.9). The aggregate time of 39:06.9 gave UNH 74 points, behind Middlebury (83), UVM (80) and Dartmouth (77).
UNH heads to the Dartmouth Carnival on Feb. 6-7 with alpine races at the Dartmouth Skiway and Nordic events at the Craftsbury (Vt.) Common.
