VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PAST BENTLEY, 3-0

Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) and sophomore Lauren
Laquerre (Concord, N.H.) registered 11 and 10 kills,
respectively, and each added four blocks to lead the University of
New Hampshire volleyball team to Tuesday evening's 3-0
victory over Bentley University in an exhibition contest at
Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-17, 28-26 and 25-15.
In addition to Fogarty and Laquerre, Pauline
Acres (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) notched nine kills and
three service aces, while Kate Uitti (Pinckney,
Mich.) paced the offense with a match-high 25 assists. Defensively,
Sara Heldman (Greenwood, Ind.) tallied a team-high
10 digs.
In the first set, Bentley took a 2-0 lead but New Hampshire
quickly answered with four straight to lead it 4-2. The teams were
tied at 6-6 before four-straight points gave UNH a 10-6 lead. The
Wildcats held the lead throughout the set and captured the
eight-point win. UNH had 11 kills and hit at a match-best .269
clip.
In the second set, the Falcons once again built a 2-0 lead only to
see the Wildcats quickly respond. The teams were deadlocked at 6-6
until New Hampshire went on a 11-7 run to build a 17-13 advantage.
The held a 22-20 lead before four-straight points gave the Falcons
set-point. UNH successfully broke set-point twice and Bentley
countered by breaking two set-points of its own before the Wildcats
were able to come away with a 28-26 set win.
In the final set, Bentley stormed out of the gate to a 7-1 lead.
New Hampshire recorded 16 of the next 20 points and turned a
six-point deficit into a 17-11 lead. UNH never relinquished its
large advantage and went on to win the set by a 10-point
margin.
UNH returns to action this weekend (Sept. 4-5) at the UConn
Tournament. The Wildcats open on Friday, Sept. 4 (7 p.m.) against
Texas Christian University. They will also play the host
Huskies (12:30 p.m.) and Long Island University (5 p.m.) on
Saturday. The 'Cats return home Sept. 18-19 for the second
annual Holly Young Invitational. Wyoming, Arizona State and Harvard
make up the field in this year's tournament. Tickets to the
