Adam Riese, a senior quarterback from Hamilton, N.J., entered the game with five minutes left in the first quarter and went on to lead the UNH football team to a 24-21 victory at the University of Maine to keep the Brice-Cowell Musket in Durham and sent the Wildcats into the NCAA FCS postseason for the 13th consecutive year.
Adam finished the game 20 of 37 (54.1%) for 218 yards and one touchdown. It marked his first career 200-yard passing yard game and the 37 attempts was also a personal best.
The score was tied 14-14 at 4:07 of the third quarter when Adam engineered a 16-play, 74-yard TD drive that gave the Wildcats their first lead of the game, 21-14, at 12:22 of the fourth quarter. He capped the drive with a 10-yard TD pass to Neil O’Connor.
Maine tied the score, 21-21, with 5:02 remaining in regulation, but Adam led the Wildcats into the red zone with less than a minute to play, and Morgan Ellman kicked a 21-yard field goal with seven seconds on the clock to provide the game-winning points.
