‘Cats to play at Western Michigan on Sept. 1

QUEENS, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to St. John's, 5-0, on Thursday night at Belson Stadium. Guilherme Gomes scored four goals for the Red Storm.

The Wildcats fall to 0-2-1, while the Red Storm improve to 2-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

· The Red Storm took a 1-0 lead when Gomes sent a penalty kick to the right side of the net in the 28th minute (27:16).

· Gomes scored his second goal in the 32nd minute (31:24) on a header from six yards out to the right corner of the net.

· Then Gomes secured a hat-trick in the 34th minute (33:31) when he launched a shot from 25 yards out to the upper left corner.

· The Red Storm extended the lead to 4-0 in the 38th minute (37:27) as Luca Fargnoli sent a shot that ricocheted off the left post to the back of the net.

· Gomes concluded the scoring for the game with his fourth goal of the match when he knocked in the ball from six yards out in the 75th minute (74:29).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

· St. John's outshot UNH, 19-3, while the Red Storm had 11 shots on goal and the Wildcats posted two.

· The Red Storm attempted four corner kicks and the 'Cats took one.

· Graduate student goalkeeper Scott Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) made one save in the first 45 minutes for UNH, while graduate student Claudio Fuentealba (Rancagua, Chile) recorded five saves during the second half. Alec Mclachlan earned the win and shutout with two saves.
