Get to know freshman alpine skier Jayden Buckrell of the University of New Hampshire ski team. Jayden was the 2025 NCAA slalom national champion.
Jayden is from Collingwood, Ontario. His favorite part about his hometown of Collingwood is that he gets to experience all four seasons.Â
"I can enjoy time on the water and time on the ski hill," Jayden said.Â
Â
Jayden has been skiing since he was 3 years old and shared that his passion for skiing comes from his family, who share a strong background in athletics.Â
"My family is driven by athletics," Jayden said. "My mom and dad own a conditioning and athletic performance gym in my hometown. My dad is also the head coach at my home ski club. I also have a sister who is a freshman at McGill University in Montreal and plays on the volleyball team."
Â
Three fun facts about Jayden are that he can solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded, he played eight sports competitively, and he is a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan.Â
Jayden shared that his biggest inspiration is Auston Matthews, captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who he said will "lead the Maple Leafs to a Stanley Cup this year."
Â
Outside of skiing, Jayden enjoys time on the golf course, playing tennis, mountain biking, beach volleyball, lifting in the gym, wake surfing and various other water sports.Â
"One thing I can't live without are my golf clubs," Jayden said. "Nothing can beat a round of golf with the boys on a sunny summer day."
Â
Reflecting on his first year at UNH, Jayden offered a piece of advice to incoming Wildcats.Â
"Take it all in," Jayden said. "There are countless opportunities to meet amazing people and experience new things. There is always something for everyone at UNH and these experiences will last a lifetime."Â
Â

Jayden opened up about his favorite part about joining the UNH community, which he said is spending time with his team.Â
"I have never experienced a team aspect even close to what we have here," Jayden said. "The environment that my captains and coaches have created here is one-to-none. Everybody on the team I call family and we always have each other's back every step of the way. I am surrounded by great people who I am honored to spend the next four years with and create unforgettable memories."
