Tasmin Cookman Powers UNH Past Quinnipiac, 4-0

HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior forward and captain Tasmin Cookman (London, England) recorded a goal and two assists to lead the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Friday's 4-0 victory against Quinnipiac University at Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium.
Freshman goalkeeper Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) made five saves to record a shutout and win in her first career start. UNH's other goal scorers were sophomores Addison MacNeil (Brentwood, N.H.) and Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands), as well as junior captain Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario).
Quinnipiac goalie Cristina Torres was credited with six saves.
UNH improves to 1-2 and QU is 0-3.

FIRST QUARTER
- The home team recorded a 3-1 shot advantage in the scoreless first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- Poulakis broke the scoreless tie at 22:23 when she was positioned at the right post and redirected the ball into the cage. The sequence started with Brecken Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) carrying the ball across the 25 yard line and sending a pass into the circle on the left side. Cookman corralled the ball and beat a defender out to the middle of the circle, where she fired a low blast to Poulakis on the right post.
THIRD QUARTER
- MacNeil extended the lead to 2-0 with 13 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Cookman intercepted a pass near midfield and her long hit was collected by MacNeil just outside the top-right of the circle. After one touch to enter the circle, MacNeil drove a low, hard shot inside the left post.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Johnson made saves nine seconds apart – at 45:58 and 46:07 – to keep the Bobcats scoreless.
- UNH scored goals 3:25 apart to quickly double the lead to 4-0.
- Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) advanced along the right endline and her centering pass to the middle of the circle, where Knuttel fended off a defender to redirect a shot over Torres into the cage for a 3-0 lead at 51:00.
- Carly Warms (Chicago, Ill.) tackled the ball away near midfield to spring Cookman, who beat one defender outside the 25 and another at the top of the circle before striking a shot inside the left post at 54:25.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Cookman matched her career high of two assists, which she did three times as a freshman in 2022.
- Through three games, she has a team-high three assists and is tied atop the points leaderboard with five.
- Knuttel is tied for the UNH lead in both goals (two) and points.
- MacNeil scored her first goal of the season and second career.
- Meijer recorded her first career assist.
- Johnson, who made her collegiate debut Sept. 1 at UConn, has stopped 9 of 12 shots on goal in 105 minutes this season for a 1.71 GAA and .750 save percentage.
- Johnson is the first UNH goalie other than Jemma Woods to record a shutout since Oct. 26, 2018, when Kelsey Rudert made three saves in a 1-0 win vs. UAlbany.
