Knuttel's Three Goals Propel UNH Past PC, 6-1

DURHAM, N.H. – Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) recorded three goals and one assist to lead the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Sunday's 6-1 victory against Providence College at Memorial Field.
The three goals and seven points both marked career highs for Knuttel.
UNH's other goal scorers were Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario), Brecken Calcari (St. Louis, Mo.) and Tasmin Cookman (London, England). Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) was credited with a career-high three assists.
UNH starting goalie Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) earned the win by not allowing a goal and recording two saves in 43 minutes, 16 seconds. Kerigan Ross (Baltimore, Md.) was not credited with a save and surrendered one goal in 16:44.
PC's goal was scored by Ally DeCoste and goalie Asia Porter made two saves.
UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 4-6 and Providence is 5-5.

FIRST QUARTER
- UNH was awarded a penalty stroke for a Providence foul inside the circle at 12:55 and Poulakis scored under the upper-left side of the crossbar to give UNH a 1-0 lead.
- UNH's defense created strong pressure in the circle by forcing two PC shots wide.
SECOND QUARTER
- Knuttel's pass from the right end line found Calcari in the middle of the circle and she knocked it into the empty cage putting UNH up 2-0 at 16:17.
- One minute later, Knuttel tapped the ball into the goal off a rebound to create a 3-0 lead for the 'Cats at 17:27.
- UNH was awarded a penalty corner with one second on the clock. Meijer tooks a shot inside the left side of the circle that Cookman tapped in for the goal to extend UNH's lead to 4-0.
- The defense continued to keep strong for the Wildcats, who allowed only one shot on goal in the quarter and first half.
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH scored another goal on a penalty corner goal when Meijer, from the top-right of the circle, sent a pass back to the top and Knuttel blasted a low shot into the cage at 34:29 for a fifth UNH goal.
- Johnson made a save through traffic to deny Carly van Benten in the 37th minute.
- Ross entered the game with 1:44 on the clock.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Meijer's pass from outside the circle to was tipped in the right side of the goal by Knuttel to extend UNH's lead to 6-0 at 47:53.
- UNH stops all four Providence penalty corners spanning the 49th to 52nd minutes by allowing one shot attempt that was blocked by a Wildcat.
- Providence stopped a pass near midfield to regain possession and Taylor Ligozio passed low to DeCoste for a goal in the lower right side of the cage that made it 6-1 with 2:33 remaining.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Knuttel extended her goal streak to five games and she has a goal in 8 of 10 games this season.
- In two games this weekend, Knuttel recorded five goals and an assist.
- She leads the team in both goals (11) and points (24).
- Meijer extended her point streak to four games; she has two goals and five assists for a total of nine points during the streak.
- Poulakis scored a goal in the second consecutive game – both on penalty strokes – to extend her point streak to three games.
- Cookman also scored goals in both games this weekend.
- UNH has scored six goals in back-to-back games.
