BURLINGTON, Vt. – Graduate student forward Matthew Goncalves (Everett, Mass.) tied the contest late in the second half for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team tied Vermont, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field in the America East season opener for both teams.
The Wildcats are now 2-2-3 (0-0-1 AE), while the Catamounts are 4-1-3 (0-0-1 AE).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· The first half went scoreless as the Catamounts outshot the Wildcats, 7-5, but UNH had the edge in shots goal, 3-2.
· UVM took a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute (52:25) when Andrew Millar fired a one-timer to the lower right side of the goal from six yards out.
· The Wildcats almost tied the contest in the 63rd minute when a shot by Goncalves ricocheted off the top post and the follow up by sophomore forward Austin Bush (Southampton, Mass.) just went over the net.
· Then in the 77th minute, Goncalves sent a shot from 20 yards out to the lower right side of the goal, but it was saved by Lou Liedtka to keep the Catamounts up 1-0.
· The equalizer was scored in the 84th minute (83:16) when senior forward Michael Tsicoulias (Newton, Mass.) had his free kick deflected off the wall right to Goncalves who sent it to the back of the net for the 1-1 final score. Matthew Goncalves ties the game late in the second half!

· UNH outshot UVM, 18-8, including by a 13-1 margin in the second half, while the Wildcats took nine shots on goal and the Catamounts had three.
