Knuttel Strikes Again in 2-1 Loss at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. –Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was edged 2-1 by Fairfield at University Field on Friday afternoon.
Knuttel's goal tied the score, 1-1, in the 35th minute. UNH goalie Abby Johnson (Walpole, Mass.) was credited with three saves.
Fairfield goalie Emily Streib made eight saves. Catherine Fitzgerald and Alex Senior scored the Stags' goals.
UNH is now 2-5 and Fairfield is 2-4.

FIRST QUARTER
- UNH recorded a 3-2 shot advantage in the scoreless opening 15 minutes.
- Johnson was tested early as she denied Konni Hofmann on both the initial shot and chance off the rebound in the third minute.
- The Wildcats pressured in the 13th minute, when their first penalty corner of the game produced Knuttel's shot wide. Moments later, a shot off the stick of Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) was stopped by Streib.
- Poulakis was once again turned away by Streib with 57 seconds on the clock.
SECOND QUARTER
- Fairfield generated a 5-1 shot advantage in the second quarter and took a 1-0 lead into halftime when Fitzgerald scored at 24:23.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire responded with a 4-1 shot advantage in the third quarter, but teams tallied one goal to push the score to 2-1 in favor of the Stags.
- Knuttel's shot at 33:34 was saved by Streib, but the 'Cats continued to pressure and earned a penalty corner at 33:46. Another chance by Knuttel was stopped by Streib, but it resulted in another corner and this time Knuttel was not denied as her goal tied the score, 1-1, at 34:04.
- Faye Meijer (Purmerend, Netherlands) was credited with the assist on Knuttel's flick into the right corner of the cage.
- Senior put Fairfield back in front, 2-1, with a goal at 39:55.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH pressured to score the equalizer with a 5-2 shot advantage in the fourth quarter, but Streib made three saves to preserve the home team's one-goal lead.
- On a Wildcats' corner in the 49th minute, the shot by Tasmin Cookman (London, England) was blocked by a defender.
- In the 54th minute, Streib denied Poulakis and then Carly Warms (Chicago, Ill.) on the rebound.
- Cookman sent a shot toward the cage with 2:48 remaining but Streib made the save and UNH did not record another shot the rest of the game.
