‘Cats return to action on Saturday, Aug. 31 vs. William & Mary at Wildcat Stadium
DURHAM, N.H. – Connor Burkett scored the game-winning goal for the Broncos as the No. 9 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to No. 12 Western Michigan, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the home opener.
The Wildcats fall to 0-1-1, while the Broncos improve to 2-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· The Wildcats took the first shot on goal of the game in the 20th minute when graduate student Matthew Goncalves (Everett, Mass.) fired a shot from 20 yards out as Colin Welsh made a diving save to keep the contest scoreless.
· The lone goal of the game was recorded in the 36th minute (35:01) when Owen Smith sent a corner kick into the box that was deflected by Gabe Villagomez to Burkett, who then scored on a one-timer to the lower right side of the net.
· In the 80th minute, Goncalves blasted a shot from 10 yards out that was heading to the upper left corner of the goal, but Welsh was able to get his hand on it and deflect the attempt away for the 1-0 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· UNH outshot WMU, 21-8, while the Wildcats had five shots on goal and the Broncos posted two.
· The Wildcats attempted six corner kicks and the Broncos took four.
· Senior Erik Lauta (Aptos, Calif.) made one save for UNH, while Welsh posted five saves to earn the shutout.
