Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week: Eva DeChent and Jared Whale

DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team and junior goaltender Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) of the UNH men's ice hockey team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Dec. 2.

Eva led the Wildcats to victory Dec. 1 at Dartmouth College by tying her career high of 34 points on 11-for-21 shooting and scoring over half of UNH's total points in the 64-57 win. Eva also recorded two 3-pointers, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. On Nov. 26, Eva scored a team-high 14 points along with four rebounds, two blocks and one steal as UNH fell to Holy Cross.

Eva averaged 24 points, five rebounds, and two blocks per game in a 1-1 week for the Wildcats. She currently leads the team in points, free throws, blocks and steals.

The UNH women's basketball team returns to action Saturday, Dec. 7 (1 p.m.) against Army West Point at Lundholm Gymnasium on ESPN+.

Jared helped UNH sweep the RIT series this past weekend at the Whittemore Center Arena at Key Auto Group Complex. He went 2-0-0 on the week allowing only two goals with a total of 37 saves for a .949 save percentage and a 1.01 GAA. Jared tallied a total of 21 saves on Nov. 29 in the 5-1 win and 16 saves in the 6-1 win on Nov. 30.

Jared is ranked third in Hockey East with his 1.90 goals against average and .921 save percentage. He is 6-4-2 on the season.

The UNH men's hockey team returns to action against Northeastern on Friday, Dec. 6 (7 p.m.) at Matthews Arena on NESN and ESPN+.
