Tasmin Cookman Scores Twice in 5-3 Loss at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore captain Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) scored two goals but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated by Providence College, 5-3, Friday afternoon at Lennon Family Field.
Kathelijne Knuttel (Groningen, Netherlands) scored UNH's other goal. Starting goalie Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) made four saves and allowed four goals in 38:07. Mariana Birdthistle (Limerick, Ireland) played the final 21:53 and was credited with one save.
Bella DelNegro and Bo Martina both recorded a goal and an assist while Eleonore De Keyser finished with two assists. Asia Porter made three saves.
Both teams have a 3-2 overall record.

"It was a pretty slow start," UNH head coach Robin Balducci said. "We fought back a little bit but gave up some goals. We started coming on later in the game. It was a great last quarter and just too little, too late."

FIRST QUARTER
- PC recorded a 4-1 shot advantage and 1-0 edge in penalty corners in the opening 15 minutes.
- Lisa McNamara scored on a penalty corner at 8:57 to give the Friars a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.
SECOND QUARTER
- Both teams tallied two shots in the second quarter with UNH generating a 2-1 edge in corners.
- PC converted its corner into a goal by Martina for a 2-1 lead at 22:48.
THIRD QUARTER
- The home team had a 6-3 shot advantage but UNH had a 3-1 edge in quarters as the teams combined to score four goals in the third quarter.
- Goals by Celia Preveza at 33:09 and Macie Pennisi at 36:58 extended the advantage to 4-0.
- Knuttel scored off her own rebound at 41:44 to trim the deficit to three goals, 4-1.
- DelNegro scored on a deflection in front of the cage with 71 seconds remaining in the third quarter to reestablish a four-goal margin.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH had a 3-0 edge in both shots and corners in the fourth quarter.
- Cookman scored goals 29 seconds apart to quickly lift the Wildcats within 5-3.
- She struck first at 55:41 when she carried the ball into the circle and scored from the right side.
- The Wildcats earned a corner just 18 seconds later and Cookman scored on a give-and-go with her sister Tamera Cookman (Woking, England) at 56:10.
- UNH generated another corner at 57:33 but did not record a shot, and the Friars did not allow another shot the rest of the way.
