Sixty-Three Percent of UNH Student-Athletes Named to Commissioner's Honor Roll
BOSTON – A total of 238 University of New Hampshire student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 America East Honor Roll. Of those, 185 attained Commissioner's Honor Roll status – including 47 Wildcats with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average – and 53 made the Academic Honor Roll.
Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who recorded a GPA of 3.50 or higher, and those with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 are named to the Honor Roll. The qualifying GPA is the semester in which that sport's conference championship is played.
Sixty-three percent of UNH student-athletes earned Commissioner's Roll recognition and a total of 81 percent of UNH student-athletes recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher. New Hampshire's numbers were higher than those of the conference, which was 52 percent Commissioner's Honor Roll and 77 percent Honor Roll. The Wildcats' percentages also mark an improvement from 2021-22 at levels of 60 percent and 79 percent, respectively.
The women's track & field team had the highest number of UNH representatives on the Honor Roll (44), which included 34 on the Commissioner's Honor Roll; that calculates to 92 percent receiving an academic honor and 71 percent on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Women's track & field was also UNH's squad with the highest percentage of student-athletes on the Honor Roll at 92 percent. Lacrosse, swimming and diving and volleyball teams all had 90 percent representation. Women's cross country (88%), women's soccer (86%) and women's basketball (83%) also placed more than 80 percent of its student-athletes on the Honor Roll.
The swimming and diving team boasted the Wildcats' highest percentage of Wildcats on the Commissioner's Honor Roll with 16 of 20 making the grade – that's 80 percent – and seven recording a 4.0 GPA. They were followed by women's basketball (75%), women's track & field (71%), women's soccer (69%) and volleyball (67%).
Overall, 2,694 America East student-athletes earned Academic Honor Roll in 2022-23 and this marked the 18th consecutive year America East student-athletes have averaged at least a 3.0 GPA.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country, which honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for their success in the classroom, including its sports Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic honorees, Presidential Scholar-Athletes and its Honor Roll Elite 18 recipients.
New Hampshire received a number of other America East academic accolades in the 2022-23 year as UNH recorded its second-highest GPA in the history of the Walter Harrison Academic Cup with a 3.44 GPA among the Wildcats' 12 America East sponsored sports.
Two 'Cats were named the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their respective sports; those honorees were Yannick Bright (Milan, Italy) in men's soccer and Madison Linstedt (Marion, Ohio) in women's swimming and diving.
Cassie Jones (Beverly, Mass.) of women's soccer earned an Elite 18 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete who has the highest GPA among those competing in that sport's America East championship.
Eleven Wildcats were recognized as an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete for compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate, receiving an undergraduate degree in Spring 2023 and attending UNH for a minimum of two years.
