UNH Athletics Receives High NCAA Graduation Success Rate Marks

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of New Hampshire athletic department earned an NCAA Graduation Success Rate score of 95 percent, including nine teams with a perfect mark of 100, in the most recent data that was released Wednesday. UNH's mark bested the national average of 90 percent.
This year's overall GSR is the fifth consecutive year UNH recorded a mark of 95 percent or higher and ninth consecutive year at 90 or higher; the Wildcats recorded a 96 last year, 95 in both 2021 and 2020 and 96 in 2019, as well as 93 in 2018, 92 in 2017, 91 in 2016, and 90 in 2015.
"Our terrific GSR is a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches and support staff to make being a graduate the No. 1 priority at UNH," UNH Director of Athletics Allison Rich said. "Our athletic programs consistently compete at a championship level while developing Wildcats for Life who become leaders in their communities after graduation."
New Hampshire is the conference leader in 10 sports, including the nine sports that received a perfect mark of 100; they are women's basketball, women's cross country/track & field, field hockey, gymnastics, women's ice hockey, lacrosse, women's skiing, women's soccer and volleyball.
Men's soccer is UNH's other conference leader at 95 percent.
Two other Wildcat teams recorded a score of 90 or higher with swimming and diving (93) followed by football (91). Swimming & diving was one of the two UNH teams that recorded a higher mark than last year; the other was men's basketball.
Overall, 12 of 16 UNH teams recorded a GSR higher than the sport's national average. UNH football's mark of 91 percent was a difference of +12 from the FCS national average of 79 ranked third in CAA Football. Women's cross country/track & field was +8 of the national average (92) and women's basketball was +7 of the national average (93).
UNH ranked third in America East with is 95 GSR and the Wildcats also recorded the third-highest Federal Graduation Rate (76 percent).
Vermont led America East at 97 percent, followed by Bryant (96), UNH (95), Binghamton (92), NJIT (92), UMass Lowell (92), UAlbany (86), UMBC (83) and Maine (82).
The GSR indicates the percentage of scholarship student-athletes earning a degree within six years; these numbers reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in fall 2016. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. Unlike the federal graduation rate, the GSR takes transfer students into account.
