Wildcats Defeat Sacred Heart 90-84 on the Road

FAIRFIELD, CONN. – Junior forward Trey Woodyard (London, Ohio) came up clutch in the second half for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team defeated Sacred Heart 90-84 on Thursday evening from William H. Pitt Center.
Woodyard hit three 3-pointers and forced a turnover under the basket with 21 seconds left to protect the Wildcat lead. He ended the game with 17 points, a career high, eight rebounds, tying his career high, and two steals.
The Wildcats' record advances to 5-3 (0-0 AE) and Sacred Heart's falls to 4-4 (0-0 NEC).

FIRST HALF:
- Sacred Heart drained the first five points of the game, but UNH responded with a jump shot from senior forward Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and a three from grad student forward Jaxson Baker (Phoenix, Ariz.) to tie the game 5-5 three minutes in.
- In the first five minutes of the game, Daniels scored 12 for the Wildcats.
- Woodyard had five points off a spinning layup and a three to give UNH a 27-14 lead with 10:00 remaining in the half.
- The 'Cats recorded five steals in the first half, two of those coming from Baker.
SECOND HALF:
- A three from Daniels and a successful and-one play from junior guard Ahmad Robinson (West Orange, N.J.), opened the scoring.
- The Wildcats held the Pioneers from scoring for the first 3:30 of the half.
- Sacred Heart then went on a 13-4 run over 3:29 bringing the Wildcat lead to 60-51 with 12:09 left in the game.
- The Pioneers brought the Wildcat lead to seven, but five points for Woodyard in 30 seconds gave UNH a ten point lead back.
- Sacred Heart inched back and tied the game at 78 with 2:48 to go.
- Woodyard drained a three from the corner to retake the lead, 83-80 with 1:50 left. He then forced a turnover at the other end of the court with 21 seconds left to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Wildcats had a 51.4% field goal percentage in the first half.
- Robinson sank nine free throws in the final thirty seconds.
- Redshirt freshman Promise Opurum (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Robinson and Woodyard all scored career highs for the Wildcats.
- The victory marked UNH's first win over Sacred Heart in program history.
